In the midst of our hectic editing schedule (we’re working on two deadlines simultaneously!), we received a most welcome surprise from the daughter of someone who’s been in one of our films, though we never had the pleasure of knowing him: . You’ll recognize Samuel as the guitarist and singer of the song “Shuttle Car Driving Man” that’s featured in Harlan County USA. Samuel was not one of the striking miners, but he came down from West Virginia to support the strikers during the U.M.W. of A. march featured about an hour into the film. Recently, Samuel’s daughter Lisa contacted us to say that Samuel died on March 7, 2006, which we are very sad to hear. Samuel has always been a memorable character from the film, and we’re glad that he shared his music with us and all the people who get the chance to see the film. In memory of Samuel Hager, here is a photo of him performing “Shuttle Car Driving Man.”

Welcome to the Cabin Creek Films blog! This is the first of many posts about a whole array of different topics, and we’re really excited to keep you in the know on all the projects we’re working on. We plan on posting as much as possible, so please check in with us periodically. And we definitely want to hear from you! Please leave comments about stories that might make interesting films, great movies you’ve recently seen, and all your thoughts on what’s going on in documentary these days.

We recently just finished cutting together a series of 2-minute clips for the Disney Channel called ‘The Music In You’ that started airing on the Disney Channel two weeks ago. This past June, we went to Texas to film two high schools as they put on a theatrical version of the cultural phenomenon that is High School Musical. We got to know the kids, faculty, and family as they moved from the casting stages all the way through to opening night performances. You can check out more at disneychannel.com/musicinyou.

Right now, we’re wrapping up a project for True TV, “The Mildred Muhammed Story” that looks at Mildred Muhammed, the wife of DC Sniper John Allen Muhammed, and her relationship to the man during their courting period all the way through the trauma of his three-week attacks in the DC area. Keep your eyes open for that in the coming months.

So please explore our new site and feel free to make comments, we look forward to hearing from you!
