We’ve been working on a film about actress and health guru, Mariel Hemingway (granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway) for OWN, which has brought us to California, Washington DC, and Sun Valley, Idaho.  We’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Mariel and we’ve learned a lot from her about healthy living and her own personal journey.

We’ve also just started filming a documentary about the Nation Magazine for their 150th anniversary.  We’re looking forward to getting to know some of the amazingly talented writers and editors who contribute to the magazine and delving into their vast and fascinating history.

All in all, shaping up to be a busy production and post-production year for us!

In other news, our film, “A Force of Nature” about journalist and humanitarian Ellen Ratner screened at the Big Sky Film Festival in Montana last month and is screening at the Cleveland International Film Festival on March 28th and 29th.  We can’t wait to head out to Ohio in a few weeks.

For those of you in and around NYC, we hope you can join us at the IFC Center for the premiere screening of The House of Steinbrenner on September 20^th at 8pm.  Tickets go on sale this Friday, September 17^th and you can buy them here.  If you’re unable to attend, The House of Steinbrenner will be airing on ESPN the following night, September 21^st at 8pm.    We’ve been working on this film for two years and we’re incredibly proud of it and can’t wait for you to see it.  We’d love to hear what you think, so please post your comments!

September is turning out to be quite an exciting month for us.  In addition to our screening, Chicken & Egg Pictures is celebrating Barbara and fellow filmmaker Marc Weiss at their annual Independent Film Week party.  As an admirer of Chicken & Egg’s work to support and fund women filmmakers, Barbara is especially honored to be a part of this event. 

Finally, we’re very happy to share with you that Barbara will be joining the Woodstock Film Festival this year as a juror, as well as a member of their panel on the craft of documentary filmmaking.  She’s really looking forward to once again being a part of this wonderful festival.

Hello All,

We’ve had quite a busy and productive summer so far!   Our ESPN 30 for 30 film, The House of Steinbrenner, and our HBO documentary on guns are both in post-production, and we’re continuing to develop new and exciting projects for the fall.     

The House of Steinbrenner will be airing on ESPN on September 21st.  It will also be screened at New York City’s IFC Center on September 20th as part of the Stranger than Fiction documentary series.   Keep checking our website for updates on screening times and venues. 

In other news, we are very pleased to announce that Woodstock:  Now & Then is nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Arts & Culture Programming!  The awards will be presented on September 27^th and we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Woodstock: Now and Then is going to be kicking off the Woodstock Film Festival tomorrow night (September 30) at 8:00! We’re really excited, and we hope some of you are going to be there! Barbara is going to be presenting the film at the Bearsville Theater. She’s also going to be part of a panel discussion on Sunday, October 4th titled “Documentaries: Then, Now, and Tomorrow,” so if you’re in the Woodstock area, please do check out the events. It’s going to be a great time!

As you may have already heard, Cabin Creek just put out its latest film Woodstock: Now & Then. It premiered on VH1, VH1 Classic, and the History Channel only a few weeks ago and has been getting some excellent reviews from places like The New York Times, and The New York Post. Nancy Franklin at The New Yorker praised the film for “the telling details that it teases out from the organizers, backers, and crew, which show us the many happy (and unhappy) accidents that made the festival possible.” We’re very proud of the film and had a blast making it. We’d really love to hear your thoughts on it, so look out for repeats on VH1, VH1 Classic, and the History Channel and be sure to leave us comments.

In the midst of finishing up Woodstock: Now & Then, we’ve also been in the thick of filming our project on the New York Yankees for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series. We had a wonderful shoot last week at Yankee Stadium, meeting some fans with incredible stories and getting a great one-on-one interview with Derek Jeter before the game. And on top of that, the Yankees trounced the Rangers 9-2!

We are finally and officially finished with our latest film Woodstock: Now & Then!  It’s set to premiere on VH1 and VH1 Classic on Friday, August 14 at 9:00 PM, and then on the History Channel on Monday, August 17 at 8:00 PM.  As always, be sure to check your local listings for exact times.  We’re very excited for everyone to see the film, which features all-new interviews with Woodstock organizers, musicians, and fans.  There are also loads of never-before-seen photos and illustrations, and awesome tribute performances by the incredibly talented young musicians at the Paul Green School of Rock and the amazing Grace Potter.  We had a great time reliving the event and following its legacy on through today’s young artists.  The film was selected as an Entertainment Weekly Pick of the Week, and we hope you like it too!  We look forward to hearing your thoughts when you see it, so please leave us comments!

Hi All,

This has been a very busy year for us at Cabin Creek, and we are hard at work finishing up two films right now that are set to air soon. 

The first is a new feature-length documentary titled Woodstock: Now & Then that’ll premiere on VH-1 on August 14 and the History Channel on August 17.  We spent the better part of the last 5 months gathering stories and found that Woodstock continues to be a monumental event in peoples’ lives, from couples who met at Woodstock and now have grandkids together to the young and incredibly talented Woodstock-loving musicians who make up the Paul Green School of Rock All-Stars.  We are now in the finishing stages of the edit and are excited to have the film air almost 40 years to the day of the first Woodstock festival.  There are some wonderful surprises in the movie, including never-before-seen footage, photos, interviews, and illustrations. We’re very excited about the film and look forward to airing it in a couple of months.

The second is a documentary for ESPN’s 30 by 30 series that recounts the story of the New York Yankees under their passionate owner George Steinbrenner.  George Steinbrenner was a pioneering owner and businessman, changing the way the business side of baseball operated, all while maintaining a very public profile and never losing his competitive zeal.  The film highlights the unique relationship between Steinbrenner and the Yankees teams that he led up until recently, when his children took over his ownership responsibilities.  This has been a really interesting film to shoot, and we’ve gotten explore some incredible behind-the-scenes activities and learn how truly amazing George Steinbrenner is.
